Battle of Bonchurch - Battle

Battle

Reports of the fighting are confused, and therefore no fully comprehensive account of the battle has been agreed upon. However, the battle could have taken place at dawn (the day of the battle is unknown), and lasted until midday. Some records of the battle say that some women of the Isle of Wight participated in the battle by shooting arrows at the French.

Famous quotes containing the word battle:

The thundering line of battle stands,
And in the air Death moans and sings:
But Day shall clasp him with strong hands,
And Night shall fold him in soft wings.
    Julian Grenfell (1888–1915)

Women’s battle for financial equality has barely been joined, much less won. Society still traditionally assigns to woman the role of money-handler rather than money-maker, and our assigned specialty is far more likely to be home economics than financial economics.
    Paula Nelson (b. 1945)

In a battle all you need to make you fight is a little hot blood and the knowledge that it’s more dangerous to lose than to win.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
