Battle Beasts - Revivals

Revivals

In the summer of 2009 at the San Diego Comic Con, it was announced that Diamond Select Toys, who produces Minimates, had acquired the Battle Beasts brand name after Hasbro allowed the trademark to lapse. They also displayed a playset featuring a Minimates version of what is to become their new Battle Beasts line. The playset was to become available for sale on December 31, 2009, but has been cancelled. The alligator figure has since shown up in 4 unique promotional configurations, and the first figures are presently due at retail in late 2012 or early 2013. At this time, 10 different Battle Beasts Minimates have been released through a number of channels.

In February 2010 at the New York Toy Fair, Diamond Select Toys gave away a promotional alligator Minimates Battle Beasts figure. Several repaints of the figure were sold in 2010, and at C2E2 2012 the company confirmed they would be going forward with a full line of figures.

A comic book based on the franchise was released by IDW Publishing in May 2012. Also in 2012, a small company called Plastic Imagination! announced Rise of the Beasts, a forthcoming line of minifigures with articulated arms and necks inspired by the original 1980s toys.

Takara Tomy also announced a line either called Beast Saga or Beast Fight, depending on the translation, which is similar in proportions to the original figures. The fire/wood/water battling mechanism has been replaced by a dice launcher, and these figures, which saw release in September 2012, also include shields in addition to weapons.
