The Commonwealth of Australia's 27th Prime Minister, Julia Gillard was born in Barry Island in 1961. She became Australia's first woman Prime Minister and first female leader of the Australian Labor Party on 24 June 2010 after serving as Deputy Prime Minster to Kevin Rudd.
