Creation
Barnet Local Government District was created on September 25, 1863 under the Local Government Act 1858, and was governed by a local board. The Local Government Act 1894 reconstituted the area as an urban district and the local board was replaced by an elected Barnet Urban District Council. The urban district was extended in 1905, 1914 and 1935.

Famous quotes containing the word creation:
“Like witches they flew along rows
Keeping creation at ease;
With a tendril for needle
They sewed up the air with a stem;”
—Theodore Roethke (19081963)
“We should always remember that the work of art is invariably the creation of a new world, so that the first thing we should do is to study that new world as closely as possible, approaching it as something brand new, having no obvious connection with the worlds we already know. When this new world has been closely studied, then and only then let us examine its links with other worlds, other branches of knowledge.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
