Community and Government

Barford has an active Parish Council who are determined to improve facilities and the visual appearance of the village. The local school with its "Feed my lambs" logo was built in 1854 and closed at the end of 2006, village children now travel to Wilton. The old school is now used for a preschool playgroup. Much of the surrounding farm land is owned by the Wilton Estate.

Famous quotes containing the words community and, community and/or government:

Stories of law violations are weighed on a different set of scales in the Black mind than in the white. Petty crimes embarrass the community and many people wistfully wonder why Negroes don’t rob more banks, embezzle more funds and employ graft in the unions.... This ... appeals particularly to one who is unable to compete legally with his fellow citizens.
    Maya Angelou (b. 1928)

There is no finer investment for any community than putting milk into babies.
    Winston Churchill (1874–1965)

What happens in a strike happens not to one person alone.... It is a crisis with meaning and potency for all and prophetic of a future. The elements in crisis are the same, there is a fermentation that is identical. The elements are these: a body of men, women and children, hungry; an organization of feudal employers out to break the back of unionization; and the government Labor Board sent to “negotiate” between this hunger and this greed.
    Meridel Le Sueur (b. 1900)
