Bamber Bridge F.C. - Stadium

Stadium

Bamber Bridge play their home games at the QED Stadium. The ground was previously known as Irongate, before the new name was adopted in a sponsorship deal. The club bought the land in 1983 and spent the next four years developing it into a football pitch, naming it Irongate after the local area. The first game was played in August 1987 and since then the stadium has seen a number of developments. Floodlights were installed in the early 1990s.

In 1996 the Czech Republic national team beat Bamber Bridge 9–1 in a warm up game for the 1996 European Championships in front of a record crowd of 2,300. As well as the home games of Bamber Bridge, the stadium also hosts the home games of Preston North End reserve team.

Famous quotes containing the word stadium:

The final upshot of thinking is the exercise of volition, and of this thought no longer forms a part; but belief is only a stadium of mental action, an effect upon our nature due to thought, which will influence future thinking.

In their eyes I have seen
the pin men of madness in marathon trim
race round the track of the stadium pupil.
    Patricia K. Page (b. 1916)

It’s no accident that of all the monuments left of the Greco- Roman culture the biggest is the ballpark, the Colosseum, the Yankee Stadium of ancient times.
