Opening and Development

When opened as part of the Callander and Oban Railway on 1 June 1870, Balquhidder station was called Lochearnhead. The station was laid out with two platforms, one on either side of a crossing loop. There were sidings on the east side of the station. The station was renamed as Balquhidder on 1 July 1904.

Balquhidder station was relocated slightly further south on 18 December 1904 in preparation for it becoming a junction with the Comrie, St Fillans & Lochearnhead Railway. Upon the opening of the junction on 1 May 1905, the station boasted two signal boxes and an engine shed.

Famous quotes containing the words opening and, opening and/or development:

“They are as neat as a wallet,
opening and closing on their coins,
    the quarters, the nickels,
    straight into the crapper.
Why shouldn’t I pull down my pants
    and moon the executioner....”
    —Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

“Just opening up the door, having this ordinary person fly, says a lot for the future. You can always equate astronauts with explorers who were subsidized. Now you are getting someone going just to observe. And then you’ll have the settlers.”
    —Christa McAuliffe (1948–1986)

“Ultimately, it is the receiving of the child and hearing what he or she has to say that develops the child’s mind and personhood.... Parents who enter into a dialogue with their children, who draw out and respect their opinions, are more likely to have children whose intellectual and ethical development proceeds rapidly and surely.”
    —Mary Field Belenky (20th century)
