Ballarat V/Line Rail Service - Services

Services

V/Line operates hourly passenger services along the line. During peak hour some services originate and terminate at Bacchus Marsh. Passengers on the inner section of the line between Melbourne and Melton are permitted to use Myki tickets to access the services.

Beyond Ballarat the Intercity Ararat Line operates, while Metro Trains Melbourne operates suburban passenger services along the inner section of the line as far as Sunshine on the Sunbury Line.

Services to Ballarat and Ararat are operated primarily with VLocity DMUs, while peak-hour trains to Bacchus Marsh are operated with locomotive-hauled trains, using H type carriages hauled by N, P or A class locomotives.

The majority of the line is single track, with the exception of:

  • double track between Melbourne, Sunshine and Deer Park West.
  • a short crossing loop at Rockbank.
  • a short crossing loop at Melton station.
  • Parwan Loop, between Melton and Bacchus Marsh stations, located before the descent into Bacchus Marsh.
  • Bank Box Loop, between Bacchus Marsh and Ballan stations, located atop the Werribee Gorge.
  • a long crossing loop at Bungaree, between Ballan and Ballarat. The two tracks take different routes, one being the original line via Bungaree, the other being a new deviation built as part of the Regional Fast Rail project.

Famous quotes containing the word services:

    It seems I impregnated Marge
So I do rather feel, by and large,
    Some cash should be tendered
    For services rendered,
But I can’t quite decide what to charge.
    Anonymous.

A good marriage ... is a sweet association in life: full of constancy, trust, and an infinite number of useful and solid services and mutual obligations.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

Men will say that in supporting their wives, in furnishing them with houses and food and clothes, they are giving the women as much money as they could ever hope to earn by any other profession. I grant it; but between the independent wage-earner and the one who is given his keep for his services is the difference between the free-born and the chattel.
    Elizabeth M. Gilmer (1861–1951)
