Bad Religion (EP)
Bad Religion was the debut release by the Los Angeles punk rock band Bad Religion. It was released in February 1981 through guitarist Brett Gurewitz's record label Epitaph Records with the catalog number EPI 001. The EP contained only six short songs, and played in just under ten minutes. Bad Religion was initially released on 7-inch vinyl, and soon afterward re-issued as a 12-inch vinyl. The EP was also pressed on compact cassettes, but they are rare. All the songs were later re-released on the 1991 compilation 80-85, and once again on the 2004 CD re-issue of the group's debut studio album How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, originally released in 1982. The EP was reissued on April 18, 2009 in conjunction with Record Store Day. Copies were limited to 1,000. It is currently being sold at Epitaph Records' online store and comes pressed on grey vinyl.
According to Gurewitz, the EP was recorded at a demo studio called Studio 9, located above an office and drug store in Los Angeles on Sunset Boulevard and Western Avenue. The EP was mastered by Stan Ross at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood.
