Bad Lieutenant - Alternate Versions

Alternate Versions

The film was originally rated NC-17, one of the few movies to be rated NC-17 with drug use cited as one of the main reasons (the only other film being Comfortably Numb). The NC-17 cut was described for "sexual violence, strong sexual situations and dialogue, graphic drug use".

Blockbuster, the largest video rental company in the United States, had a policy prohibiting the purchase and rental of NC-17 films. An R-rated cut was created specifically so that Blockbuster would rent out the film. The R-rated cut was described with "drug use, language, violence, and nudity".

Famous quotes containing the words alternate and/or versions:

Boswell, when he speaks of his Life of Johnson, calls it my magnum opus, but it may more properly be called his opera, for it is truly a composition founded on a true story, in which there is a hero with a number of subordinate characters, and an alternate succession of recitative and airs of various tone and effect, all however in delightful animation.
    James Boswell (1740–1795)

The assumption must be that those who can see value only in tradition, or versions of it, deny man’s ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
    Stephen Bayley (b. 1951)
