  • Axrock: A dwarven vampire in the employ of Azalin, whose main job is to craft magical guards for his castle.
  • Balipur: A vassalich (servitor lich). Aided Azalin during the Grand Conjunction, but current status is unknown.
  • Death: Formerly Azalin's clone-son, Lowellyn Dachine, Death now rules Necropolis and clearly desires to expand its influence into Darkon. What Azalin thinks of his former progeny is unknown. (Grim Harvest)
  • Duval, Andre: A renowned bard once in the employ in Azalin's court, Duval now wanders the land as a unique form of lich, the result of a violent magical confrontation with his erstwhile host. (Ravenloft Monstrous Compendium 2)
  • Ebb: A Shadow Dragon once resident in Azalin's keep, Ebb now lives to the south in Mount Nyid. Perhaps Azalin's single most physically powerful ally.
  • Elzarath: A ghostly librarian in the employ of Azalin at Castle Avernus. His main task is to supervise the Book of Names, in which all Darkonians' true memories are stored.
  • Foedus: A vassalich. Currently serving Azalin.
  • Hyskosa: A Vistani seer of unparalleled clairvoyance, he predicted the Grand Conjunction and the six conditions that would bring it about. Azalin imprisoned him and saw to triggering the conditions.
  • Kargat: A secret police comprising human officers at its lowest levels, and monstrous creatures (such as werebeasts) in its upper levels. The highest officers in the Kargat are usually powerful undead individuals. They serve as Azalin's informers, infiltrators, and on occasion, executioners.
  • Kargatane: A secret organization of (mostly) live humans who serve the Kargat. Although the Kargatane became a dominant society in the Requiem and the thinning of the Kargat's ranks, since then the Kargat has steadily regained control over its once-ascendant servitors.
  • Kazandra: A Kargat officer based in Martira Bay who remained loyal to Azalin during the Requiem, now ranking as one of their top leaders.
  • Ruscheider, Werner: Pseudonym employed by a vassalich in Azalin's service—true name unknown, although in-game statistics imply he is not Balipur nor Foedus nor Yako Vormoff. (CT)
  • "S": A female human scholar commissioned by Azalin to catalog the known domains of Ravenloft. Little is known about this scholar, but a few details are known:
"S" is middle-aged.
"S" was born in Darkon.
"S" had a bad relationship with her father early in life.
"S" studied at the University of Port-a-Lucine in Dementlieu, where she had a boyfriend named Andre.
"S" had one daughter, who was mortally wounded by a ghoul and later dragged by her mother into the Shroud of Necropolis (presumably to save her daughter's mind), which resulted in her becoming a ghoul herself. "S"'s daughter is said to roam the streets and sewers of Necropolis to this day.
"S" once attempted to gain membership in the Fraternity of Shadows, a secret society dedicated to finding the secrets of Ravenloft and the Dark Powers themselves, and failed.
"S" has raven-black hair.
"S" is unimpressed with the accomplishments of her famous peer, Rudolph van Richten, unlike many of her colleagues. She is also somewhat contemptuous of those less intelligent than herself.
"S" is somewhat morally detached, as evidenced by some of her actions (torturing some creatures for information, deeming the ideals of goodness and virtue as foolish, and trading a baby's life to gain access to the domain of Keening)
"S" is skilled in various fields of knowledge including arcane magic, combat, firearms, botany, linguistics, observation, persuasion, and torture.
Azalin presents himself as an anonymous Darkonian noble in his dealings with "S", though "S" herself already knows (correctly) that her patron is none other than her monarch, Azalin. In her letters to Azalin, she signs her name as "S", the only known hint of her real name.
  • Skeever: Imp familiar to Azalin during the Grand Conjunction. Presumed dead, in light of Squalimous (see below).
  • Squalimous: Imp familiar to Azalin after the Grand Conjunction.
  • Styrix: A night hag summoned by Azalin and thereafter unable to return to her home plane. She currently labors on a magical artifact that will allow her to escape Ravenloft and spite Azalin. (RMC2)
  • Tavelia: A fallen Kargat officer who attempted to usurp Azalin's throne in his absence. Currently resides overseas. (GH)
  • Vormoff, Yako: A vassalich formerly in the employ of Azalin. Since the Requiem, has been sighted as a free agent around Darkon. His specialty creation is the maggot golem. (GH)
  • Willow: An elven banshee residing in Azalin's castle. The Darklord executed her for treason by hanging her from a hook, and then raised her as an undead to serve him in eternity. She hates Azalin but can do nothing more than haunt the castle's battlements.

All the critics who could not make their reputations by discovering you are hoping to make them by predicting hopefully your approaching impotence, failure and general drying up of natural juices. Not a one will wish you luck or hope that you will keep on writing unless you have political affiliations in which case these will rally around and speak of you and Homer, Balzac, Zola and Link Steffens.
