Auraria Library - The Library Building

The Library Building

The building was designed by internationally-recognized architect Helmut Jahn. Its design excellence was recognized by the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 1978. In 2009, it earned the Denver AIA 25-year Award, which recognizes the enduring quality of architectural design that has withstood the “test of time” and still functions in its original capacity.

Famous quotes containing the words library and/or building:

Our civilization has decided ... that determining the guilt or innocence of men is a thing too important to be trusted to trained men.... When it wants a library catalogued, or the solar system discovered, or any trifle of that kind, it uses up its specialists. But when it wishes anything done which is really serious, it collects twelve of the ordinary men standing round. The same thing was done, if I remember right, by the Founder of Christianity.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)

Notice how he has numbered the blue veins
in my breast. Moreover there are ten freckles.
Now he goes left. Now he goes right.
He is building a city, a city of flesh.
    He’s an industrialist.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
