History
Aunt Bessie’s Limited is part of the William Jackson Food Group, a diversified food manufacturing business founded in Hull in 1851. The founder's great, great grandson is the current Chairman, Nicholas Oughtred.
Aunt Bessie’s frozen prefabricated Yorkshire puddings were originally created by the company for Butlins Holiday Camps in 1974. The company's name was taken from The Triton Inn, at Brantingham, then in the same ownership and noted for its Yorkshire Puddings. The company first entered the retail trade in 1995 with frozen Yorkshire puddings and the launch of the Aunt Bessie's brand.
Three months after the Aunt Bessie's brand was launched, the factory on Trinity Street was burnt down.
In August 2004, the supermarket division of the William Jackson company, Jacksons Stores based in North Ferriby, was sold to Sainsbury's for £100m as the company began to focus on food production rather than retail.
In early 2008, sales of their Homestyle mashed potato doubled when they featured in Delia Smith's How to Cheat at Cooking for use in a shepherd's pie.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“In history an additional result is commonly produced by human actions beyond that which they aim at and obtainthat which they immediately recognize and desire. They gratify their own interest; but something further is thereby accomplished, latent in the actions in question, though not present to their consciousness, and not included in their design.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
“History is not what you thought. It is what you can remember. All other history defeats itself.
In Beverly Hills ... they dont throw their garbage away. They make it into television shows.
Idealism is the despot of thought, just as politics is the despot of will.”
—Mikhail Bakunin (18141876)
“Free from public debt, at peace with all the world, and with no complicated interests to consult in our intercourse with foreign powers, the present may be hailed as the epoch in our history the most favorable for the settlement of those principles in our domestic policy which shall be best calculated to give stability to our Republic and secure the blessings of freedom to our citizens.”
—Andrew Jackson (17671845)
