Academics

The DVM program in AVC is "fully accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medicine Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the United Kingdom."

AVC's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is a four year professional degree program. The school also offers a two year pre-veterinary program which will lead to the DVM program if students score well. Each year AVC accepts 60 students into its DVM program. Approximately 35 to 40 of AVC's seats are reserved for residents of Atlantic Canada, with the remaining 20 to 25 seats available for international students. However, students who do not get entry into the DVM program may apply for other majors such as Psychology or Biomedical Science.

In addition to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program, AVC offers Master of Science (MSc), Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) and Doctoral (PhD) programs within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Some of the areas of expertise at the Atlantic Veterinary College include the Center for Veterinary Epidemiological Research and the Center for Aquatic Health Sciences and the Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Center.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
