Name Meaning
- Ataru's full name literally translates as, "to be struck by a falling star." The name is capitalized on in the second eyecatch to the series, which shows Ataru getting hit by the star (星, hoshi?) character of "Urusei Yatsura", driving him neck-deep into the ground. Helen McCarthy describes his "curse and blessing" in gaining Lum's love as being akin to being struck by a falling star.
