The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) is a consortium of the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities and two theological centers in the United States committed to advancing academic excellence by promoting and coordinating collaborative activities, sharing resources, and advocating and representing the work of Jesuit higher education at the national and international levels. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
Although each institution is legally autonomous under independent boards of trustees and separately chartered by respective states, the 28 schools and two theological schools share common Jesuit ideals and traditions. They also engage in a number of collaborative projects.

Famous quotes containing the words association, colleges and/or universities:
“It is not merely the likeness which is precious ... but the association and the sense of nearness involved in the thing ... the fact of the very shadow of the person lying there fixed forever! It is the very sanctification of portraits I thinkand it is not at all monstrous in me to say ... that I would rather have such a memorial of one I dearly loved, than the noblest Artists work ever produced.”
—Elizabeth Barrett Browning (18061861)
“But here comes Generosity; givingnot to a decayed artistbut to the arts and sciences themselves.See,he builds ... whole schools and colleges for those who come after. Lord! how they will magnify his name!
One honest tear shed in private over the unfortunate, is worth them all.”
—Laurence Sterne (17131768)
“... though mathematics may teach a man how to build a bridge, it is what the Scotch Universities call the humanities, that teach him to be civil and sweet-tempered.”
—Amelia E. Barr (18311919)
