The Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS) are a group of eleven elite independent schools in Victoria, Australia, similar to the Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools of New South Wales in New South Wales.
The association was established in 1900 so that students of the member schools may compete against each other on the sporting fields, the original competition sports were Australian Rules Football, Rowing and Cricket. Students now compete in a variety of sports, which are split into three seasons, Summer, Winter and Spring. Students in Year 7 and above compete on Saturdays and students in primary year levels compete on Friday afternoons. Major annual competitions include the APS Head of the River rowing regattas, the APS Combined Swimming & Diving Championships and the APS Athletics Championships.
In March 2005, the APS member schools formed a set of guidelines regarding the awarding of sporting scholarships to students, following criticism of recruiting practices employed by the schools. The headquarters of the APS is known as APS House and is located in the Tooronga Village Commercial Complex in Glen Iris, Victoria.

Famous quotes containing the words public, schools and/or victoria:
“Like those before it, this decade takes on the marketable subtleties of a private phenomenon: parenthood. Mothers are being teased out of the home and into the agora for a public trial. Are we doing it right? Do we have the right touch? The right toys? The right lights? Is our child going to grow up tall, thin and bright? Something private, and precious, has become public, vulgarizedand scored by impersonal judges.”
—Sonia Taitz (20th century)
“Universal suffrage should rest upon universal education. To this end, liberal and permanent provision should be made for the support of free schools by the State governments, and, if need be, supplemented by legitimate aid from national authority.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
“The men who are grandfathers should be the fathers. Grandpas get to do it right with their grandchildren.”
—Anonymous Grandparent. As quoted in Women and Their Fathers, by Victoria Secunda, ch. 2 (1992)
