Asquith railway station is located on the Main North railway line in the northern Sydney suburb of Asquith. It is currently served by trains of CityRail's North Shore line. The station is served by two trains per hour in each direction for most of the day, with additional trains during weekday peak hours. A few Central Coast trains stop for the convenience of schoolchildren. Asquith has two side platforms which can accommodate 8-car intercity trains.
Famous quotes containing the words asquith, railway and/or station:
“The ingrained idea that, because there is no king and they despise titles, the Americans are a free people is pathetically untrue.... There is a perpetual interference with personal liberty over there that would not be tolerated in England for a week.”
—Margot Asquith (18641945)
“Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understandmy mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arms length.”
—Angela Carter (19401992)
“How soon country people forget. When they fall in love with a city it is forever, and it is like forever. As though there never was a time when they didnt love it. The minute they arrive at the train station or get off the ferry and glimpse the wide streets and the wasteful lamps lighting them, they know they are born for it. There, in a city, they are not so much new as themselves: their stronger, riskier selves.”
—Toni Morrison (b. 1931)
