Ashokananda - Works

Works

The Swami rendered great service to the cause of the Vedanta movement in the West by his clear and through expositions of Vedantic teachings through lectures and classes for nearly four decades. During his ministry the Vedanta Society expanded its activities greatly, adding to it two sub-centres and two forest retreats and a new temple in San Francisco. He also promoted Swami Vivekananda's view of active humanitarian service.

From 1953 onward the Swami's lectures were recorded on tape. Some of them have been transcribed and published.

Famous quotes containing the word works:

    The hippopotamus’s day
    Is passed in sleep; at night he hunts;
    God works in a mysterious way—
    The Church can sleep and feed at once.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

    Artists, whatever their medium, make selections from the abounding materials of life, and organize these selections into works that are under the control of the artist.... In relation to the inclusiveness and literally endless intricacy of life, art is arbitrary, symbolic and abstracted. That is its value and the source of its own kind of order and coherence.
    Jane Jacobs (b. 1916)

    No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
    Bible: New Testament, Matthew 5:15,16.
