Ashley Hall (school)

Ashley Hall is an all-girls' day school in in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. It was founded in 1909 by Mary Vardrine McBee, who headed the institution for many years. It is the only girls college-preparatory school in the state. Originally accepting boarding students, Ashley Hall transitioned to a day school in 1974. Students today number 650 strong and range in grade level from two-year-olds in pre-primary to graduating seniors. The classes are girls-only beginning with Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Ashley Hall has always been a mission driven school. For more than 100 years that founding mission, To create educated women who are independent, ethically responsible and prepared to face the challenges of society with confidence, has commanded every evolution of the school's campus and program. The school's motto is Possunt Quae Volunt, or “Girls who have the will have the ability.” (This was changed due to a junior AP Latin student's suggestion in 2003; the previous motto was Possunt Qui Volunt, or “Those willing are able.”)

Famous quotes containing the word hall:

Let us not be too much acquainted. I would have a man enter his house through a hall filled with heroic and sacred sculptures, that he might not want the hint of tranquillity and self-poise.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
