Ashby de La Zouch Castle - Today

Today

The castle is a popular tourist attraction, managed by English Heritage. The ruins have for the large part been stabilised from further deterioration, and the grounds are all laid to grass. It is possible to climb to the top of the Hastings tower (there are 98 steps), and to explore the underground passage from the kitchen basements to the Hastings tower, which was probably created during the Civil War.

Famous quotes containing the word today:

There was a time when the average reader read a novel simply for the moral he could get out of it, and however naïve that may have been, it was a good deal less naïve than some of the limited objectives he has now. Today novels are considered to be entirely concerned with the social or economic or psychological forces that they will by necessity exhibit, or with those details of daily life that are for the good novelist only means to some deeper end.
    Flannery O’Connor (1925–1964)

It makes worries like what you wear today seem stupid.
    Rebecca Neel (b. c. 1981)

If Shakespeare were alive today and writing comedy for the movies, he would be the head-liner for the Mack Sennett studios.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)
