Art Rock Circus

Art Rock Circus is a progressive rock band that originated with the purpose of performing the John Miner inspired Rock Opera Heavens Cafe in Las Vegas during 1996. The band recorded both a studio and a live album by the same title and later released both recordings in 2000 on the Tributary Music Label. The following years saw two more releases from the band "A Passage to Clear" 2002 and the critically acclaimed "Tell A Vision" in 2005. Before Art Rock Circus, Miner was the principal driving force behind California based progressive rock band Mantra Sunrise In 2004 Art Rock Circus performed Heavens Cafe again in Los Angeles in conjunction with Insurgo Theater. The line up from those performances included Ken Jaquess of K2 on bass guitar. Miner recruited new members in the early 2000s collaborating with writing partner Nolan Stolz to release the double CD titled "Tell a Vision" in 2005. The band continues to record and perform under the Art Rock Circus moniker. Miner also contributed guitar work on the album K2 Book of the Dead released on Prog Rock Records featuring songwriter and bassist Ken Jaquess and guitar virtuoso Allan Holdsworth.

In 2010, Art Rock Circus collaborated with Spiritual Artist Mystikka Jade for a short film Consequences of Infinity that combined imagery developed by Jade into a high speed analog animation with the intention of presenting a series of perviously static spatial patterns high in luminance while being intrinsically tied to the music. There are also film sections of the band integrated into the film.

In 2012, Art Rock Circus released the all instrumental album "Variations on a Dream". The album originally was going to be a solo project featuring the songs of Milo Keysington for the Tributary Music Label, but after Miner, Stolz, Manning and Jaquess jumped into the project with Miner producing, "it would not have made sense to release it as anything else but Art Rock Circus" said John Miner.

Famous quotes containing the words art, rock and/or circus:

The art of the critic in a nutshell: to coin slogans without betraying ideas. The slogans of an inadequate criticism peddle ideas to fashion.
    Walter Benjamin (1892–1940)

    each rock a word
    a creek-washed stone
    Granite: ingrained
with torment of fire and weight
    Gary Snyder (b. 1930)

The way to go to the circus, however, is with someone who has seen perhaps one theatrical performance before in his life and that in the High School hall.... The scales of sophistication are struck from your eyes and you see in the circus a gathering of men and women who are able to do things as a matter of course which you couldn’t do if your life depended on it.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)
