Arnhem Railway Station - Reconstruction

Reconstruction

In 2006 a reconstruction of the complete station area was started. In October of that year, a temporary station entrance opened, that could only be reached by three sets of stairs (or by elevators). On July 2, 2011, the new tunnel under the platforms opened and the temporary entrance was closed and dismantled. A new platform north of the three existing platforms and a footbridge connecting the platforms opened in the summer of 2011.

In the Summer of 2011 a new dive under was opened west of the station which allows trains to Nijmegen and Utrecht to cross all the lines without having to wait for each other. This resulted in a complete suspension of all train traffic to the west of the station during five weeks in the Summer of 2011. The dive under opened at 29 August 2011.

At the end of the reconstruction project the station will be renamed to Arnhem Centraal.
