Winter was born in San Diego, California, to Crystal and Glenn Workman. She is the sibling of actress Shanelle Gray and actor Jimmy Workman. On October 3, 2012, Winter temporarily entered the care of her older sister after allegations that her mother physically and emotionally abused her. Her mother denies the abuse allegations. Gray received permanent guardianship and financial control over Winter, as per a filed guardianship petition.
