Argyre Quadrangle - Argyre Basin

Argyre Basin

The Argyre basin was created by a giant impact. It is believed to have contained a lake early in the history of Mars. At least three river valleys (Surius Vallis, Dzigal Vallis, and Palacopus Vallis) drain into it from the south. After it froze solid, the ice formed eskers which are visible today.
