Architectural Pattern - Definition

Definition

Even though an architectural pattern conveys an image of a system, it is not an architecture. An architectural pattern is a concept that solves and delineates some essential cohesive elements of a software architecture. Countless different architectures may implement the same pattern and share the related characteristics. Patterns are often defined as "strictly described and commonly available". For example, the layered architecture is a call-and-return style because it defines an overall style to interact. When it is strictly described and commonly available, it is a pattern.

Famous quotes containing the word definition:

Scientific method is the way to truth, but it affords, even in
principle, no unique definition of truth. Any so-called pragmatic
definition of truth is doomed to failure equally.
Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)

It’s a rare parent who can see his or her child clearly and objectively. At a school board meeting I attended . . . the only definition of a gifted child on which everyone in the audience could agree was “mine.”
    Jane Adams (20th century)

One definition of man is “an intelligence served by organs.”
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
