Apple Lossless

Apple Lossless, also known as Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC), or Apple Lossless Encoder (ALE), is an audio codec developed by Apple Inc. for lossless data compression of digital music. After initially being proprietary for many years, in late 2011 Apple open sourced and made royalty-free the Apple Lossless codec. Since its inception in 2004, Apple has traditionally referred to the codec as Apple Lossless, though more recently has begun to use the more commonly used outside of Apple abbreviated term ALAC when presenting or discussing the codec.

Famous quotes containing the word apple:

The apple tree has been celebrated by the Hebrews, Greeks, Romans, and Scandinavians. Some have thought that the first human pair were tempted by its fruit. Goddesses are fabled to have contended for it, dragons were set to watch it, and heroes were employed to pluck it.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
