Annie Duke - Epic Poker Scandal

Epic Poker Scandal

Anne Duke was co-founder, Executive Vice President and League Commissioner of the Epic Poker League during its short existence from 2011 until it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on February 28, 2012. Epic poker generated only $37,052 in income during its short existence, however the bankruptcy filings show that Annie Duke paid herself $299,784 for her time as commissioner while Epic Poker amounted debts of over $8 million. Among those defrauded in the Epic Poker League scandal was the Disabled American Veterans charity. Referring to the Epic Poker Scandal and the Disabled American Veterans, poker professional Daniel Negreanu stated in an interview that "They haven’t paid the charities or any of their employees or the production crew. They’ve just stole a bunch of the money. That Geoffrey Pollack and Annie Puke."

Famous quotes containing the words epic, poker and/or scandal:

An epic of worry rather than of high tragedy.
    —E.M. (Edward Morgan)

The poker player learns that sometimes both science and common sense are wrong; that the bumblebee can fly; that, perhaps, one should never trust an expert; that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of by those with an academic bent.
    David Mamet (b. 1947)

Certain it is that scandal is good brisk talk, whereas praise of one’s neighbour is by no means lively hearing. An acquaintance grilled, scored, devilled, and served with mustard and cayenne pepper excites the appetite; whereas a slice of cold friend with currant jelly is but a sickly, unrelishing meat.
    William Makepeace Thackeray (1811–1863)
