Angel Moroni - Mortal Life of Moroni The Prophet

Mortal Life of Moroni The Prophet

According to the Book of Mormon, Moroni was the son of Mormon, the prophet for whom the Book of Mormon is ostensibly named. He may have been named after Captain Moroni, a much earlier Book of Mormon figure. Before Mormon's death in battle, he passed the golden plates to Moroni. Moroni then finished writing on the plates and concluded his record, presumably burying them in the hill Cumorah in western New York.

Famous quotes containing the words mortal, life and/or prophet:

Fortune raises up and fortune brings low both the man who fares well and the one who fares badly; and there is no prophet of the future for mortal men.
    Sophocles (497–406/5 B.C.)

    A life I didn’t choose
    chose me: even
my tools are the wrong ones
for what I have to do.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

It is the manner of gods and prophets to begin: “Thou shalt have none other God or Prophet but me.” If I were to start as a God or a prophet I think I should take the line: “Thou shalt not believe in me. Thou shalt not have me for a God. Thou shalt worship any d_____d thing thou likest except me.” This should be my first and great commandment, and my second should be like unto it.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)
