Andrew Soltis

Andrew Eden Soltis (born May 28, 1947 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania) is a chess Grandmaster, author and columnist.

He won at Reggio Emilia 1971–72 and was equal first at New York 1977. He was awarded the International Master title in 1974 and became a Grandmaster in 1980. He has been inactive in chess competitions since the 1980s.

His column Chess to Enjoy is one of the longest running in Chess Life, the monthly publication of the United States Chess Federation. He is also a weekly columnist for the New York Post. Soltis is considered one of the most prolific chess writers, having authored or coauthored around thirty books. He was named "Chess journalist of the year" in 1988 by the Chess Journalists of America. Soltis was inducted into the United States Chess Hall of Fame in September 2011.
