Andrew Johnson (English Footballer) - Charity Interests

Charity Interests

In December 2007, Johnson, along with a host of other players, including Marcus Bent, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Titus Bramble, started celebrating goals by making an 'A' with his hands. It was later revealed that this was in fact the players' way of signalling the start of a new football-based community project scheme – The A-Stars! With the motto "if you dream it, you can achieve it", the idea is to enable young people to use the talents they have for good, in sporting work places. The co-founder of the charity was Queens Park Rangers defender Fitz Hall, who played with Johnson at Palace. As of 2012, Andy Johnson is a patron of FFC Football For Cancer. A fundraising event created by Raymond Ogilvie that strives to raise enough money possible for hospices in and around Hampshire. So Far FFC Football for Cancer has raised £67,000.

Famous quotes containing the words charity and/or interests:

Reputation is not of enough value to sacrifice character for it.
—“Miss Clark,” U.S. charity worker. As quoted in Petticoat Surgeon, ch. 9, by Bertha Van Hoosen (1947)

Women are taught that their main goal in life is to serve others—first men, and later, children. This prescription leads to enormous problems, for it is supposed to be carried out as if women did not have needs of their own, as if one could serve others without simultaneously attending to one’s own interests and desires. Carried to its “perfection,” it produces the martyr syndrome or the smothering wife and mother.
    Jean Baker Miller (20th century)
