Amsterdam University College (AUC) is a public liberal arts college in the Netherlands with an enrollment of about 700 students from more than 60 countries.
The college was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of the VU University and the University of Amsterdam with a particular focus on the natural sciences. Although AUC has its own campus, students can also use facilities of both parent universities. The college is part of a recent wave of university colleges in the Netherlands which have introduced liberal arts education to the country.
AUC offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in the social sciences and humanities and a Bachelor of Science degree in science, which are pursued by about 50%, 15%, and 33% of the student body, respectively. The curriculum is strongly interdisciplinary; within each field, students have to pursue at least two disciplines. AUC further emphasizes its 'academic core', which makes up a large part of the curriculum.

Famous quotes containing the words amsterdam, university and/or college:
“The Jew is neither a newcomer nor an alien in this country or on this continent; his Americanism is as original and ancient as that of any race or people with the exception of the American Indian and other aborigines. He came in the caravels of Columbus, and he knocked at the gates of New Amsterdam only thirty-five years after the Pilgrim Fathers stepped ashore on Plymouth Rock.”
—Oscar Solomon Straus (18501926)
“The university is no longer a quiet place to teach and do scholarly work at a measured pace and contemplate the universe. It is big, complex, demanding, competitive, bureaucratic, and chronically short of money.”
—Phyllis Dain (b. 1930)
“Mrs. Pilletti: This girl is a college graduate.
Catherine: Theyre the worst. College girls are one step from the street, I tell you.”
—Paddy Chayefsky (19231981)
