Demographics
Amioun has a population of around 15,000, the large majority followers of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch. Amioun is the largest Greek Orthodox city in Lebanon and the whole Middle East and second largest community only after Achrafieh district, in east Beirut. The inhabitants of the city are predominantly of Greek descent, with strong Phoenician influence. As a result of the Lebanese and Greek diaspora, people linked to the city can be found chiefly in Brazil and the United States.
