Ambrose Barlow - Legacy

Legacy

Astley's Roman Catholic church and primary school and St Ambrose Barlow RC High School in Swinton, Greater Manchester are named after the saint. The church at Barlow Moor in the parish of his birthplace, founded in 1932, is dedicated to St Ambrose of Milan but changed to St Ambrose Barlow at his canonisation. It holds the relic of his jaw bone, and his skull is preserved on the stairwell of Wardley Hall, the one time home of the Downes family, and now the home of the Catholic bishop of Salford.
