As of 2001 India census, Ambah had a population of 40,443. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Ambah has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 61% of the males and 39% of females literate. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age. It is also famous for 'Banjara Kua' which has been built overnight. The dominant castes of Ambah are Brahmins and Thakurs(Kshatriyas). It was formerly known as AMBRISH NAGARI. Ambah is a developed township of Morena. The famous temple of Lord Shiva named KAKANMATH is in Ambah block(it has Archeological Importance). This temple was made by Chandela kings.

Ambah is also known for being the birthplace of Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil who was the very famous freedom Fighter.
