Controversy

On February 21 in 2011, Alibaba admitted that it had granted “gold” status (a mark of supposed integrity) to 2,236 dealers who it says subsequently defrauded buyers. The firm share dropped as much as 15% right after the announcement. Yan Limin, General Manager of Alibaba.com then, was kicked out of the company back in March for what Alibaba described as "misconduct", the firm said in a statement, adding that its internal investigation had revealed a further 28 employees had been involved in dodgy dealings. There was serious reputation damage for Alibaba for being a B2B website where the element of trust is important as it is the place where two parties who do not know each other first come to do business.

Famous quotes containing the word controversy:

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
