Ali Mahdi

Ali Mahdi Mohamed (Somali: Cali Mahdi Maxamed, Arabic: علي مهدي محمد‎) (born 1938) was president of Somalia from January 1991 to November 1991. He rose to power when Mohamed Farrah Aidid forced then president Mohamed Siad Barre out of office. Mohamed, however, was not able in that time to exert control over the country. Following this, the nation fell into anarchy, with only local warlords and separatist groups wielding real power.

Famous quotes containing the word ali:

That was always the difference between Muhammad Ali and the rest of us. He came, he saw, and if he didn’t entirely conquer—he came as close as anybody we are likely to see in the lifetime of this doomed generation.
    Hunter S. Thompson (b. 1939)
