Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building - Prior Bombing Plots

Prior Bombing Plots

In October 1983, members of the white supremacist group The Covenant, The Sword, and the Arm of the Lord, including founder James Ellison and Richard Snell plotted to park "a van or trailer in front of the Federal Building and blow it up with rockets detonated by a timer." Richard Snell was executed on April 19, 1995 after Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas declined to hear further appeal, the same day as the bombing of the federal building was carried out.

Famous quotes containing the words prior, bombing and/or plots:

    And Venus to the Loves around
    Remarked how ill we all dissembled.
    —Matthew Prior (1664–1721)

    The compulsion to do good is an innate American trait. Only North Americans seem to believe that they always should, may, and actually can choose somebody with whom to share their blessings. Ultimately this attitude leads to bombing people into the acceptance of gifts.
    Ivan Illich (b. 1926)

    ‘O opportunity! thy guilt is great,
    ‘Tis thou that execut’st the traitor’s treason;
    Thou set’st the wolf where he the lamb may get;
    Whoever plots the sin, thou point’st the season;
    ‘Tis thou that spurn’st at right, at law, at reason;
    And in thy shady cell, where none may spy him,
    Sits Sin to seize the souls that wander by him.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
