Alex Cross (novel Series) - Critical Reception

Critical Reception

The series has been given mixed to positive reviews, with the exception of the 18th book Kill Alex Cross, which has been given mixed to negative reviews, and Cross Country, which received mixed reviews. Many have criticized Kill Alex Cross while few have given it mixed or positive reviews. So far, the most positive received book is rather Double Cross or I, Alex Cross. The series is at numerous weeks #1 New York Times Bestseller list for several weeks. I, Alex Cross has been cited as "the best one ever!" some saying "better than its predecessors, but is it better than Double Cross with another, more major critic saying "I, Alex Crossis without a doubt the best, revealing new surprises and scares at every turn. It is even scarier than Along Came a Spider—and by far, better! This is Patterson at his best." Double Cross was on the New York Times Bestseller list (at #1) for numerous weeks before being eventually surpassed, while most of Patterson's "Alex Cross" fans enjoying I, Alex Cross and Double Cross over the other novels, leaving many to debate over which of the two was better, with many more people enjoying I, Alex Cross the best.

Merry Christmas, Alex Cross, the newest novel to the franchise, has been given mixed to positive reviews, with some criticizing its 300 pages on Hardcover, while even more criticizing its 100 (or possibly 200) pages in paperback with, overall, more people stating "it's a very small one, but it's also a very good one" and that "despite the fact that its 200 pages less than its predecessors, the book's plot is considerably and arguably fantastic or amazing. It is James Patterson trying to work at his best. The question remains, however, which is the best? And the answer is undoubtedly I, Alex Cross, which is in fact Patterson showing off his chops. His skill, his mastery. Merry Christmas, Alex Cross has potential and will be a remembered holiday classic among James Patterson and Alex Cross fans."

The film series, however, does not fare well at all with all three films being given negative reception, especially the newest film Alex Cross due to poor reviews and terrible at the box-office. Kiss the Girls was the best received film in the series.

Famous quotes containing the words critical and/or reception:

Post-modernism has cut off the present from all futures. The daily media add to this by cutting off the past. Which means that critical opinion is often orphaned in the present.
    John Berger (b. 1926)

I gave a speech in Omaha. After the speech I went to a reception elsewhere in town. A sweet old lady came up to me, put her gloved hand in mine, and said, “I hear you spoke here tonight.” “Oh, it was nothing,” I replied modestly. “Yes,” the little old lady nodded, “that’s what I heard.”
    Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
