Aleksandr Ponomarev

Aleksandr Ponomarev (Russian: Александр Семёнович Пономарёв; Ukrainian: Oлександр Семeнович Пономарьов 23 April 1918 – 7 June 1973) was a Soviet Ukrainian football player and manager.

Ponomarev was born in Horlivka. In the course of his career, he won the Soviet Cup in 1949 with Torpedo Moscow, and scored 152 goals in the Soviet Top League.

He was the head coach of the USSR national football team in 1972, leading the team to second place in UEFA Euro 1972. He also with FC Dynamo Moscow obtained the bronze medals of the Soviet Top League, and the Olympic Games 1972.

He died, aged 55, in Moscow.
