Walker Financial

Over a decade, Walker Financial grew into a six-branch operation with about thirty employees. In 1986, a stock deal that Walker had invested collapsed. As a mortgage broker and financier, Walker defrauded about 70 Canadian clients of $3.2 million. In 1990 he fled to Europe with the second of his three daughters, Sheena. In 1993, Walker was charged in Canada with 18 counts of fraud, theft and money laundering. In time Walker became Canada's most wanted criminal and the second most wanted by Interpol.

Famous quotes containing the words walker and/or financial:

The sight of a Black nun strikes their sentimentality; and, as I am unalterably rooted in native ground, they consider me a work of primitive art, housed in a magical color; the incarnation of civilized, anti-heathenism, and the fruit of a triumphing idea.
    —Alice Walker (b. 1944)

The woman who does her job for society inside the four walls of her home must not be considered by her husband or anyone else an economic “dependent,” reaching out her hands in mendicant fashion for financial help.
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)
