Educational Advisor At A National Level

While mainly a hands-on researcher he has served in a number of national roles including advising all three political parties, and the Commons Education Select Committee since 1997. He is determinedly apolitical believing that close association with any one party compromises the objectivity of the research. Among others he has been a member of the National Curriculum Council, the Beaumont Review of National Vocational Qualifications and the Royal Society Committee on Teacher Supply.

Famous quotes containing the words educational, national and/or level:

If an educational act is to be efficacious, it will be only that one which tends to help toward the complete unfolding of life. To be thus helpful it is necessary rigorously to avoid the arrest of spontaneous movements and the imposition of arbitrary tasks.
    Maria Montessori (1870–1952)

We are constantly thinking of the great war ... which saved the Union ... but it was a war that did a great deal more than that. It created in this country what had never existed before—a national consciousness. It was not the salvation of the Union, it was the rebirth of the Union.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

Nihilism as a symptom that the losers have no more consolation: that they destroy in order to be destroyed, that without morality they no longer have any reason to “resign themselves”Mthat they put themselves on the level of the opposite principle and for their part also want power in that they compel the mighty to be their hangmen. This is the European form of Buddhism, renunciation, once all existence has lost its “meaning.”
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
