Politics
Bullock was a lifelong supporter of the Labour Party and his moderate social-democratic political views influenced his historical works. He did leave Labour to become one of the founders of the Social Democratic Party (UK) and was the SDP spokesman on education in the Lords for a time.
In the 1970s he served on a commission appointed by a Labour government on worker participation in company management. The resulting report received some support but also some trade union opposition. It was never implemented.

Famous quotes containing the word politics:
“Every two years the American politics industry fills the airwaves with the most virulent, scurrilous, wall-to-wall character assassination of nearly every political practitioner in the countryand then declares itself puzzled that America has lost trust in its politicians.”
—Charles Krauthammer (b. 1950)
“Man made one grave mistake: in answer to vaguely reformist and humanitarian agitation he admitted women to politics and the professions. The conservatives who saw this as the undermining of our civilization and the end of the state and marriage were right after all; it is time for the demolition to begin.”
—Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
