Ahold Czech Republic

Ahold Czech Republic, a. s. (a. s. standing for "akciová společnost" – equivalent of joint stock company) is a division of the Netherlands-based Ahold company, operating in the Czech republic. They are responsible for running the supermarket chain Albert and the hypermarket Hypernova, totalling about 300 locations. In 2005, they took over 56 outlets of the Austrian-based Julius Meinl supermarket, which left the Czech market, and subsequently remodelled them to their Albert brand. In 2009, the company started to slowly drop the Hypernova brand, re-branding all hypermarket operations to the name Albert Hypermarket.

Famous quotes containing the words czech and/or republic:

I’m neither Czech nor Slovak ... I’m still trying to figure out who I am. I think I’m Jewish. But first I want to be human.
    Natasha Dudinska (b. c. 1967)

Royalty is a government in which the attention of the nation is concentrated on one person doing interesting actions. A Republic is a government in which that attention is divided between many, who are all doing uninteresting actions. Accordingly, so long as the human heart is strong and the human reason weak, Royalty will be strong because it appeals to diffused feeling, and Republics weak because they appeal to the understanding.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)
