Contracted or vowel-stem verbs that are thematic in Attic-Ionic are often athematic (-mi) in Aeolic.
- Ionic philéō, Attic philô ~ Aeolic phílēmi "I love"
The same is also found in Irish, where this selection has been generalized, i.e. -im.
