AEAD Block Cipher Modes of Operation

Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data (AEAD) is a class of block cipher modes which encrypt (parts of) the message and authenticate the message simultaneously. Interest in these modes was sparked by the publication of Charanjit Jutla's IACBC and IAPM modes in 2000. As of 2005 this is an active area of cryptographic research. Examples of such modes include OCB mode, CCM mode, EAX mode, CWC mode and GCM mode.

Famous quotes containing the words block, cipher, modes and/or operation:

For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles...
Bible: New Testament, 1 Corinthians 1:22-3.

It is not an arbitrary “decree of God,” but in the nature of man, that a veil shuts down on the facts of to-morrow; for the soul will not have us read any other cipher than that of cause and effect. By this veil, which curtains events, it instructs the children of men to live in to-day.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Heaven is large, and affords space for all modes of love and fortitude. Why should we be busybodies and superserviceable?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Human knowledge and human power meet in one; for where the cause is not known the effect cannot be produced. Nature to be commanded must be obeyed; and that which in contemplation is as the cause is in operation as the rule.
    Francis Bacon (1560–1626)
