Biography
Young's parents were hippies. He has four brothers: Alex, Damian, Jeff and Aaron. His father is a teacher in Cypress, CA and his stepmother, Jeanne, is currently suffering from RLS. Young is actively involved in raising money and awareness for the RLS Association of Orange County.
He began attending No Doubt's concerts after they formed in 1987, the same year he began playing the drums. In 1989, No Doubt announced that they were looking for a new drummer and Young auditioned. At the audition, he lied, saying that he had been playing for eight years.
Young is known among fans for his affinity for wearing a thong, tutu, or being naked with a mohawk during performances. He wears clown-type makeup onstage and can often be seen shirtless and in his thong in the band's music videos. He is known as the jokester of the band and has long been considered the comic relief.
When not performing, in the studio or touring, Young likes to spend his time out on the golf course, as he is an avid golf player. He is a scratch golfer who is a much desired participant in celebrity golf tournaments such as the Michael Jordan Invitational, Alice Cooper Foundation Tournament and others. Young has participated in VH-1's Fairway to Heaven numerous times.
