History
The government came up with a proposal to build the North South Line Woodlands Extension in 1990 with the aim of extending the then existing North-South and East-West lines, thus connecting Choa Chu Kang in the west to Yishun in the north. Admiralty was one of the four stations in the initial proposal which was later expanded to six. Construction commenced in 1991 and the station was opened on 10 February 1996.
Following numerous incidents of commuters falling on the tracks and unauthorized intrusions, the Land Transport Authority made the decision in 2008 to install half-height platform screen doors for all above-ground stations in phases. Installation started on October 4 2011, and started operations since December 22, 2011 with Marsiling.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“Systematic philosophical and practical anti-intellectualism such as we are witnessing appears to be something truly novel in the history of human culture.”
—Johan Huizinga (18721945)
“We know only a single science, the science of history. One can look at history from two sides and divide it into the history of nature and the history of men. However, the two sides are not to be divided off; as long as men exist the history of nature and the history of men are mutually conditioned.”
—Karl Marx (18181883)
“All history is a record of the power of minorities, and of minorities of one.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
