Founding of The Studio
The year of its creation, 1986, was a turning point for David Winters. After being overruled on a casting decision for "Thrashin'", Winters made the professional decision to control all aspects of future projects. AIP was organized by Winters with partners; Prior and Yuval.
Although Josh Brolin was ultimately cast in Thrashin', Winters' choice was a "pre-21 Jump Street", Johnny Depp. Winters had previously been a partner in the successful Winters-Rosen organization in the 1970s.

Famous quotes containing the words founding and/or studio:
“... there is no way of measuring the damage to a society when a whole texture of humanity is kept from realizing its own power, when the woman architect who might have reinvented our cities sits barely literate in a semilegal sweatshop on the Texas- Mexican border, when women who should be founding colleges must work their entire lives as domestics ...”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
“Again and again, I struggled though the storm. Once I faintedand it wasnt in the script. I was hauled to the studio on a sled, thawed out with hot tea, and then brought back to the blizzard, where the others were waiting. We filmed all day and all night, stopping only to eat standing near a bonfire. We never went inside.... The blizzard never slackened.”
—Lillian Gish (18961993)
