Abortion in Russia

Abortion in Russia is currently legal up to the twelfth week of pregnancy. In 1920, Russia became the first country in the world to allow abortion in all circumstances, but, over the course of the twentieth century, the legality of abortion changed more than once, with a ban being enacted again from 1936 to 1955. Russia had the highest number of abortions per woman of child-bearing age in the world according to UN data of 2004. In terms of the total number, in 2009 China reported that it had over 13 million abortions, out of a population of 1.3 billion compared to the 1.2 million abortions Russia had, out of a population of 143 million people.

If the vice president thinks it’s disgraceful for an unmarried woman to bear a child, and if he believes that a woman cannot adequately raise a child without a father, then he’d better make sure that abortion remains safe and legal.
    Diane British (b. 1948)

In my opinion it is harmful to place important things in the hands of philanthropy, which in Russia is marked by a chance character. Nor should important matters depend on leftovers, which are never there. I would prefer that the government treasury take care of it.
